This is becoming a more popular setup to help companies move towards the Cloud.  A simple Microsoft Based Server that will allow local users to still use databases not available in the cloud yet, and provide security on the network and a central location for backing up.

The server can also still store local files however with the release of MS Office 365 this year the need will become obsolete.  Soon common files will be kept in the cloud and the need for a local office based server will be yesterday’s technology.

In the Cloud files will be secure and offline versions will be available to commonly used workstations if the internet went down.  But more importantly, files will be accessible from almost anywhere.
